A Review: STEAMPUNK BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 1880 #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of STEAMPUNK BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 1880 #1 from Dynamite Entertainment. The story is by Tony Lee, illustrated by Aneke, colors by Alex Starling, and letters by Marshall Dillon.

The war between the Humans and the Ovions came to an end thanks to Professor Baltar and his greatest creation…the clockwork knights called Cylons. Unfortunately, Baltar wanted to rule over man as well, but was stopped by Archduke Adama of the Aethership Galactica. Baltar retreated, only to return with newer knights and successfully destroyed Caprica as well as several other aetherships. Crown Prince Apollo is feared killed during the attack, but Lady Anthea believes otherwise. She defies her father and risks her life to find the one person who can help her find her brother…the deserter Starbuck. Will she find him? If so, will he agree to help look for Apollo?

I was rather skeptical about this series, but was pleasantly surprised with what I read. Tony Lee crafted a great tale that’s faithful to the original series and story, but went a different direction, not just with the steampunk aspect. Aneke is a relative newcomer, but her art is just as spectacular as any veteran. Excited to see where things go from here.
