A Review: BRAINSTORM #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of BRAINSTORM #1 from FutureDude Entertainment. Jeffrey Morris and Ira Livingston IV write, and Dennis Calero draws and colors.

Cale Isaacs and his team have been working with the government to develop what can only be described as a weather control system. It uses nanotech to, in its first successful test, take an EF-5 tornado apart at the seams. But the military has its own ideas on the system’s use, and Cale is sent packing. And the general has an experiment of his own in the work.

This book has an interesting take on the “us vs. nature” story, adding a liberal dash of science to the science fiction (they have a science consultant – how cool is that?). They also do a really nice job of setting Cale up with character depth (the brother is a hoot, to be sure). It’s also got some really beautiful weather-based art that just jumps off the page – the lightning panel is just amazing.

If you’re up for a bit of science and a whole lot of attitude, this is a great book to grab. It’s also a really promising start for a new comic publisher, so get out there and support them.

BRAINSTORM #1 is available now at your FLCS or at futuredude.com.
