A Review: DEATH VIGIL #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of DEATH VIGIL #1 from Image Comics and Top Cow Productions. Stjepan Sejic writes, draws and colors.

Clara was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The really nice guy she’s dating turned out to be bad in a major way. That’s how she met Sam and Bernadette. They explained what the Vigil is (a group of immortals fighting off evil) and they explained that she can either join or die horribly (courtesy of the boyfriend). So not a good day for Clara.

I don’t want to spoil the really cool part of this story, which turns tradition on its head a little. I like that he didn’t swarm us with characters here; it lets him build a few main ones (Sam’s humor and heroism both come out clearly, for example), and it gives us more good characters to look forward to. And he’s drawing his own story, which is cool, too. It helps that he’s a really good artist and he gets to have some fun with the arcane stuff.

This book is loaded with supernatural fun and excitement, as well as personality-laden people in extraordinary situations. I can’t imagine that anyone wouldn’t like this book, if not love it.

DEATH VIGIL #1 is available now at your FLCS or at imagecomics.com.
