A Review: 7TH SWORD #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of 7TH SWORD #1 from Darby Pop Publishing and IDW Publishing. John Raffo writes, Nelson Blake II draws and Dave McCaig colors.

Zenzion is one of the last safe cities on Helios Colony. But the warlords are coming, and Zenzion won’t be safe forever. Daniel Cray is an old-style warrior doing odd jobs until he stumbles across the city. His arrival is lucky for them, though they don’t all see it that way. Can he save the city from total annihilation?

Cray is trained as a samurai, which is a bit anachronistic on Helios. He’s a bit of a reluctant hero, left behind by the military and with no real urge to get home, so he wanders. Ultimately he’s a good guy, though, and a sympathetic character. The technology in this book is interesting (though it doesn’t hold up against a good old sword), which makes for some really cool art (and story, too, as it unfolds).

I want to keep reading this title just to see how much difference one man can make – whether Cray can single-handedly save the city and find a purpose. Check this one out.

7TH SWORD #1 is available now at your FLCS or at idwpublishing.com.
