A Review: STAR WARS: DARTH VADER AND THE CRY OF SHADOWS #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of STAR WARS: DARTH VADER AND THE CRY OF SHADOWS #1 from Dark Horse Comics. Tim Siedell writes, Gabriel Guzman draws, and Michael Atiyeh colors.

CT-5539 has led a very unusual life for a clone, especially over the last few years. He was left for dead by his unit, and he’s been making a living for himself doing odd jobs here and there. But the clone army was designed to be led, and he still needs a leader. He thinks he’s found one now, and if the stories are true, Lord Vader will be an amazing leader indeed.

This is an interesting twist on the usual “farm boy” story, with an unwilling farm boy and playing off the old adage that the bad guys are the better characters. CT tells his story as an omniscient narrator, and he does it compellingly. And as good as that is, the images of Vader from the stories and legends help to add to the mystique.

I sometimes wonder when Dark Horse will run out of good stories involving these characters, but then one like this comes along and blows me away. They won’t run out today, good reader, so read on.

STAR WARS: DARTH VADER AND THE CRY OF SHADOWS #1 is available now at your FLCS and online at darkhorse.com.
