A Review: MR. PEABODY & SHERMAN #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of MR. PEABODY & SHERMAN #1 from IDW Publishing. The story is by Sholly Fisch, art and colors by Jorge Monlongo, and letters by Tom B. Long.

Meet Mr. Peabody, an incredibly smart dog who realized something was missing in his life. So he adopted a boy and named him Sherman. As the boy grew, Mr. Peabody had to do something about his wild and restless nature. So he decided to build a time machine called the Wabac for them to go on adventures. Their first stop was age of the cavemen, and then visited the Mayan civilization. What harm could there be, right? Right?

This was such a treat to read, it brought back memories. Sholly Fisch’s script hits all the right notes, including the trademark line “Hello, Peabody here,” the bad puns that normally end the episodes, and some great inside jokes. While Fisch’s story invokes the classic cartoon, Mr. Monlongo’s art does not. His style definitely gives freshness to the characters which is cool. I’m excited to see where (and when) our heroes goes to next.

MR. PEABODY & SHERMAN #1 is in stores now, or available to order at www.IDWPublishing.com.
