A Review: LEGENDS OF RED SONJA #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of LEGENDS OF RED SONJA #1 from Dynamite Entertainment. Gail Simone, Nancy A. Collins and Devin Kalile Grayson write, and Jack Jadson, Noah Salonga and Carla Speed McNeil draw.

A dozen killers track the one known as Red Sonja. They mean to kill her, slowly and painfully, if they can only catch her. But there are many things they will learn about her along the way – many legends they will discover about the woman who killed their prince.

This is a really nice collection of short works, and I like the way they weave them together with the hunt theme, making it a contiguous story interwoven with flashbacks. These kinds of books are a treat for me; they expose me to writers and artists that I might have missed along the way. And there’s some serious talent assembled here. Also, Dynamite is doing a delightful job of injecting new life into the Red Sonja character lately.

And it’s the first of a five-part series! How cool is that?!? Please keep them coming, Gail and Dynamite; it’s a great time to be a fantasy comics fan.

LEGENDS OF RED SONJA #1 is available now at your FLCS and online at dynamite.com.
