A Review: BURN THE ORPHANAGE #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of BURN THE ORPHANAGE #1 from Image Comics. Sina Grace and Daniel Freedman write, and Mr. Grace also draws.

Rock is upset. The orphanage he grew up in burned down last week, and he wants to know who torched the place. Being a street kid, he hits the streets looking for info. Along the way he picks up his buddies Bear and Lex, and together they track down the culprit. There’s a lesson to be learned, and some exciting street fighting to be had by all.

This is a one-shot story which doesn’t pretend to be complex, and it doesn’t need to be. It’s quite entertaining without any twists into fantasy or weirdness. It’s a story about a street fighter doing his thing, fighting in the streets, avenging the only place he ever belonged. He’s got his friends by his side, and the good guys win in the end. And that’s a refreshing change next to some of the dark, complicated stories out there. And it’s the first of three similar one-shots.

This book was a welcome change of pace, and I enjoyed it for that. The story is nicely told and well drawn, and I highly recommend picking it up.

BURN THE ORPHANAGE #1 is available now at your LCS or online at imagecomics.com.
