A Review: LOBSTER JOHNSON A SCENT OF LOTUS #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of LOBSTER JOHNSON A SCENT OF LOTUS #1 from Dark Horse Comics. The story is by Mike Mignola and John Arcudi, illustrated by Sebastian Fiumara, colors by Dave Stewart, and lettering by Clem Robins.

Lobster Johnson is investigating a recent string of murders; all of them are couriers working for the Tong. Detective Eckerd is investigating as well; plus he’s trying to get his hands on our hero. Johnson is too late to save the latest victim, but is told where the courier was going. He finds the building engulfed in flames, but that’s not all he finds…

Here is the beginning of another cool and mysterious story by the team of Mignola and Arcudi. Lobster Johnson is a worthy addition to the pulp characters of yesteryear, and it’s hard for me to believe that he’s been around for almost 15 years! Dave Stewart’s muted colors add a different type of atmosphere to the story; not dark, but not bright either. Sebastian Fiumara’s art looks great; I definitely enjoy looking at each page. The only downside is this is the first of a two-part story.
