A Review: THE SHADOW: YEAR ONE #3

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of THE SHADOW: YEAR ONE #3 from Dynamite Comics. The story is by Matt Wagner, with art by Wilfredo Torres, colors by Brennan Wagner, and lettering by Simon Bowland.

Lamont Cranston has taken to the streets to begin his crusade as the mysterious and deadly SHADOW! He introduces himself to “The Dandy Don” and his men and saves Claude Fellows (who will become one of the Shadow’s agents). Lamont must also deal with stubborn Margo Lane, who seems to know his secret (and has one or two of her own). Little does our hero know that his biggest challenge in his newly started task is about to make his presence known.

I am really enjoying Matt Wagner’s take of the character. It’s pretty intriguing to witness the development of Lamont to become the Shadow we are more familiar with.  I just wish he was doing the art (other than the covers). That is not meant as a disrespect to Wilfredo Torres, who is doing a good job with the task at hand. This book is definitely worth checking out if you are a fan or just interested in the pulp hero.
