A Review: JAILBAIT #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of JAILBAIT #1 from Bluewater Comics. Mary Jo Pehl and CW Cooke write and Nestor Vargas draws.

Diamond is a troubled young woman working in an insurance company. Or is she? What goes on in the back room, however, is rather interesting. There’s another outfit fighting the same battle as hers, but with a difference – they don’t play nice. They have Diamond’s sister, and Diamond wants a piece of them.

There’s a lot of stuff packed into this first issue, and that can be a tough thing to do. We get loads of backstory on Diamond, the team, the sister, the marks, and the bad guys. But I think they pull it off here; it reads like it will all make sense in the next issue. Diamond is well set up to be the powderkeg in this story, in the same way that James Bond works in the movies. And that usually makes for some great fight scenes.

This issue sets the stage for what looks like a fun little brawler. And who knows – maybe there’s a shocking twist in store down the road. It will sure be fun finding out.
