A Review: GRIMM FAIRY TALES #83

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of GRIMM FAIRY TALES #83 from Zenescope Entertainment. Troy Brownfield writes and Salvador Velasquez draws.

Sela’s life seems to be calming down again; she has met up with an old friend who has cleared her criminal record and landed her a job. She’s even met a guy who isn’t trying to kill her. But her new school has some history of bullying incidents, and she’s getting curious. Then a known bully turns up dead, frozen in a stream.

A lot of this issue is talking, giving Sela a chance to get her “normal” bearings back. Since this is the beginning of an arc, that’s to be expected, and can even be fun if you’re into that (I am, and I like Sela). The downside to that is that there’s little action, though it’s loaded with the promise of action to come. So that makes this a great jumping-on point for new readers; it will give them a feel for the character and what her life is like, honestly.

This is a really nice character-building issue, giving us a chance to relax a bit and bond with Sela (who is a monster hunter by trade, if you’re not familiar). Pick it up just for that, and enjoy the well-written calm before the icy storm.

GRIMM FAIRY TALES #83 is available now at your FLCS or by order at zenescope.com.
