A Review: TODD, THE UGLIEST KID ON EARTH #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of TODD, THE UGLIEST KID ON EARTH #1 from Image Comics. Ken Kristensen writes, and M.K. Perker draws.

Todd is in a lot of trouble. He has difficulty getting along with people to begin with, despite the bag he wears on his head (or maybe because of it). But now the new kid in the neighborhood has been murdered, and Todd has been fingered for the crime. With no one on his side, what will happen to the poor little guy?

Sounds serious, doesn’t it? Maybe, but I don’t think this book’s tongue could be planted in cheek any more firmly. It’s outrageous and crazy and a bit mean-spirited. But it’s really hard to not like Todd (and to wonder what he really looks like). And this is not a kids’ book, either; there’s a good bit of language, and some severed head stuff. The art adds to the ‘mean kid’ feel of the book also.

I like this book, and I like Todd enough to want to know what happens to him. I also want to see this town’s comeuppance for being so mean to him. Like Todd, vengeance will be sweet.

TODD, THE UGLIEST KID ON EARTH #1 is available now at your FLCS or by order from imagecomics.com.
