A Review: WITCH DOCTOR: MAL PRACTICE #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of WITCH DOCTOR: MAL PRACTICE #1 from Image Comics. Brandon Seifert writes, and Lukas Ketner draws.

Vincent Morrow is a magical physician. If you’ve got a magical ailment, he’s the guy to go to. He’s very smart and not all that socially smooth, and he seems to have something of a past, as his assistants Eric and Penny are quickly learning. But now something wants his attention, and is going to dramatic lengths to get it.

There’s a really cool “House meets Frankenstein” vibe going on here. An odd combination, I grant you, but I really like the science-y fantasy blend. This appears to be a world jam packed with potential creepy villains and darkly cool storylines. There’s something going on with Penny, too. And the art is fabulous; it goes from grotesque to mundane and back in a seamless flow.

This is a great first issue, also. Just enough info about main characters to get us interested and make us want more. Well, it worked again; curse you, Image!  J

WITCH DOCTOR: MAL PRACTICE #1 is available now at your FLCS or by order from imagecomics.com.
