The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of THE UNPROFESSIONALS #1 from Red Stylo Media. Alexis Cruz and Colin Rankine write,
and Chris Moreno draws.
Jake and Leo are a couple of normal high schoolers in New York City . Between
them (okay, it was Leo’s idea) they cook up a scheme to make some cash—a contract
murder. And so begins the adventure of a lifetime as they learn how to do
surveillance, isolate the target and finish him off. But what will be the
consequences?
Okay, maybe this makes me weird, but this book hooked me
with the opening scene, with Leo and Jake going down the list of sociopathic
characteristics. What an amazing way to do hardcore character development, not
to mention setting a tone for comic content. And the rest of the book teases a
handful of future conflicts as well. Overall this is a very solid first issue.
I am definitely biased toward titles that don’t take
themselves too seriously, and this one really sets that up beautifully.
Violence and comedy—how can the reader go wrong? Check this one out.
