A Review: WHISPERS #3

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of WHISPERS #3 from Image Comics. Joshua Luna writes and draws.

Sam has an interesting talent; he travels the world in ‘ghost’ form when he sleeps. Unfortunately, he also seems to gravitate toward the bad things inside people that tell them what to do. By this point witnessing the evil acts of others is starting to wear him down, and he decides it’s time to start doing something about it. And if he can protect a friend in the process, so much the better.

This title gives us a fun variation on the ‘precrime’ story (props to Philip Dick, of course) with a ‘dream quest’ type motif. The question becomes how does an ordinary guy handle it, and what happens if the ‘demons’ are real. This issue gives us a story that feels very real and down-to-earth, and art that reflects that as well.

I like the wisdom that Sam shows in recognizing that the bad things he sees can affect his sanity over time. That shows me a character who will make mistakes, but learn from them and grow. And that is the kind of book I want to read.

WHISPERS #3 is available now at your FLCS or by order from imagecomics.com.
