A Review: THE STRAIN #5

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of THE STRAIN #5 from Dark Horse Comics. David Lapham writes, and Mike Huddleston draws. It’s based on a story by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan.

Abraham Setrakian knows all too well what plagues New York. He has fought them for decades, ever since his first encounter with them in the concentration camp. He knows how to kill them, but will anyone heed his advice?

This issue provides a fascinating sidetrek to the main story here. It helps to set down a history of the vampire menace, showing how the concealed themselves over the decades. It also shows that there are those who have fought them and won, which hints at hope for possible victory now. And the sidetrek story is well told, and the art fits beautifully.

This sidelong glance into the main story is surely enough to pique my interest; I hadn’t followed this title before, but I’ll have to check it out now. Being a vampire fan surely has nothing to do with it ;-)

THE STRAIN #5 is available now at your FLCS or by order from darkhorse.com.
