A Review: LONE RANGER ANNUAL 2013

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of LONE RANGER ANNUAL 2013 from Dynamite Entertainment. The story is by Shannon Eric Denton, with art by Matt Triano, colors by Dineni Ribeiro, and lettering by Rob Steen.

There is a new masked man out there that calls himself Devil-Gun. Instead of being a champion of justice, he is out for revenge for something that happened years ago. The Ranger doesn’t like being used as the inspiration for killer and wants him stopped. Our hero is on the trail, but will be make it in time before more blood is shed?

The concept of a copycat or someone being inspired by the deeds of others is not new, but I really enjoyed how it was played out in this issue. The two men’s past are somewhat similar, but with Devil-Gun, you see how The Lone Ranger would have been if he went down a darker path. Denton does a great job of showing what a true hero Ranger is, even if he’s considered a vigilante in the eyes of the law. Triano’s art definitely sets a darker mood with this tale and it looks great.
