The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of GRIMM FAIRY TALES 2017 HOLIDAY SPECIAL from Zenescope Entertainment. Creators include
Dave Franchini, Yusuf Idris, Slamet Mujiono, Terry Kavanagh, Marcelo Basile,
Howard Mackie, Renzo Rodriguez, Valentina Cuomo, Erica J. Heflin, Marcelo
Costa, and Fabio Amelia.
As Guardian of the Nexus, Skye protects (and learns from) a
magical book that contains interpretations of fairy tales. This year on
Christmas Eve she’s resting at Arcane Acre when she receives a “guest” in the
middle of the night. He’s not the guest you’d hope for on that particular
night, but he does have some stories to share with Skye before he leaves.
Zenescope’s take on fairy tales, if you’re not familiar,
gets back to the original roots of the stories – there is often some element of
horror at the core. And the tales Skye’s guest relates are dark and twisted to
be sure. There’s a gritty reality to the stories, and the art is stellar as
always, switching from the real to the sometimes gory horror of the situation
beautifully.
Holiday specials seem to be making a comeback this year, and
many of them have been delightful so far. Zenescope has been doing them for
years, and they’re always great reads. And this one is no exception.
