A Review: ARCHIE #20

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of ARCHIE #20 from Archie Comics. The story is by Mark Waid, with art by Pete Woods, and letters by Jack Morelli.

Betty, with a little "help" from Archie, has finally restored a 1969 Mach 1 Cobra Jet that belonged to Archie’s grandfather. The celebration dies quickly when resident pain-in-the-rear Reggie shows up. He starts making fun of the classic car and threatens to tell Veronica that Archie is one screw-up away from being thrown off the football team. A challenge is made: a drag race on Serpent Hill. Betty finds out about the challenge just as the race begins and rushes to stop it. What happens next will change several lives in Riverdale...and quite possibly end one.

If you have been following this book, you know that this book has moved away from the hijinks of the classic tales and more drama mixed with humor. Things really change with this issue, as this is the opening chapter of a three part story arc that by the end, a major character will die. Mark Waid has been on this since the get-go and is still knocking it out of the park. This is the fourth issue with Pete Woods as artist, and he’s been doing a grand job. Here’s hoping he’s on the book for quite a while. Check it out!

ARCHIE #20 is at your local comic store or available at archiecomics.com.
