A Review: BRIGANDS #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of BRIGANDS #1 from Action Lab Comics. This book is created by Ram V., Nick Barber, Jason Lewis, and Kel Nuttall.

Stilian Blackheart has been tried, convicted and sentenced to die on the block. But before the headsman can do his duty, Stilian is brought before the Lord Questioner, who charges him with assembling a team of criminals to steal an artifact of power. He is set free and, with the help of a thief named Veina, manages to steal enough cash to buy the release of a prisoner. But the best-laid plans, as they say.

This is certainly an awkward position for Blackheart. It seems that all he has to do is what he does best and the job will be done. But the payment of full pardons are payable on delivery, and the artifact may not exist at all. This is a very nice fantasy quest story with a colorful potential anti-hero, and the art handles medieval action (and dungeon torture) very well with beautiful color work.

Admittedly this is my kind of story, but I think it’s done very well here. This issue is exciting, and it bears the promise of much more excitement along the way.

BRIGANDS #1 is available now at your FLCS or at actionlabcomics.com.
