A Review: THE X-FILES: ORIGINS #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of THE X-FILES: ORIGINS #1 from IDW Publishing. The stories and scripts are by Matthew Dow Smith & Jody Houser, with art by Chris Fenoglio & Corin Howell, colors by Monica Kubina & Chris Fenoglio, and letters by Dezi Sienty.

Mulder: Martha's Vineyard, summer 1974. Fox’s sister has been missing for months. He’s obsessed with trying to find out what happened and where she has been taken. One summer night he and two of his friends sneak out to look for UFOs, but unfortunately uncover an Earth bound mystery.

Scully: San Diego, summer 1977. Dana and her family have relocated to San Diego since her dad has taken the position of Rear Admiral. When her Sunday school teacher is murdered, she decides to find out who did it and why. Meanwhile, Dana’s dad must solve his own mystery he’s discovered at the base.

Matthew Dow Smith & Jody Houser have crafted two intriguing mysteries while shedding a little more light of how the heroes of THE X-FILES became the people who know. I really like the visuals Fenoglio, Howell and Kubina created for this issue. This is a miniseries that can be enjoyed by anybody, not just the hardcore fan (which I am not). Check it out.

THE X-FILES: ORIGINS #1 is in stores now or available at www.idwpublishing.com.
