A Review: CRIMSON SOCIETY #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of CRIMSON SOCIETY #1 from Action Lab Comics. Mike Hunau writes and Carlos Trigo draws.

Jack Crimson is a werewolf in a future world where it’s just becoming acceptable to be a “monster.” Werewolves, vampires, zombies and the like are starting to be accepted. Which means that there are people who want them dead. Dr. Rendal was one of those, but Jack didn’t know that until after the surgery that made him a vampire-killing machine.

Jack is a perfectly normal guy – he’s likeable, he’s got a girlfriend, he obeys the law. We can relate to him, which makes him a good protagonist. And now he’s got a little voice in his head controlling him and forcing to kill vampires. It’s a great balance of Jack’s emotional reaction and the mega-violence thing. And the art helps as well, doing both cityscapes and bloody fights very nicely.

If “movie monsters meets bio-tech” sounds cool to you, grab this book. Oh, and there’s a bonus “zero issue” in the back, too. So check it out.

CRIMSON SOCIETY #1 is available now at your FLCS or at actionlabcomics.com as well as comiXology.com.
