A Review: BETTY AND VERONICA #271

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of BETTY AND VERONICA #271 from Archie Comics. The story is by Tom DeFalco, with pencils by Fernando Ruiz, inks by Bob Smith, colors by Glenn Whitmore, and lettering by Jack Morelli.

Beatrice Witterstone, an old friend/competitor of Veronica’ mom, is back in Riverdale and has invited her to attend a fashion show she’s putting on. All the top models (including Katy Keene) are there and the music will be provided by Josie and the Pussycats. Strange things happen behind the scenes which puts the fashion show in jeopardy. It’s up to Betty and Veronica (with a little unknown assistance by Sabrina the Teenage Witch) to save the day!

Archie Comics is like a breath of fresh air after reading darker, more serious books.  Comics can be fun and still tell good stories, and writer Tom DeFalco is no stranger to good stories. I enjoyed the parallels of the love triangle between Betty, Veronica, and Archie to Veronica’s mom, Beatrice and … I’m not saying who. An added bonus was the cameos of all the ladies who lived in or passed through Riverdale over the years. Great read!
