A Review: UNITY #5

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of UNITY #5 from Valiant Entertainment. The story is by Matt Kindt, with art by CAFU, colors by Brian Reber, and lettering by Dave Sharpe.

Livewire, the newest member of MI-6, is sent to Taiwan to investigate a mysterious crash site. Ninjak goes in to locate her, only to discover that Augustus Silkowski, also known as Dr. Silk, is back. He assembles the team to go back and find Livewire and out what’s going on. Aric (X-O Manowar) only agrees out of his respect for her. The team arrives in a nearby village, only to find they are under some sort of mind control. Meanwhile, Livewire regains consciousness only to realize what exactly they are up against.

Matt Kindt brings back an old Ninjak villain for the second arc of Valiant’s superhero team. Or are they? Granted, they haven’t worked together much, but it seems difficult to see them be a “true” team. Not that I have a problem with that. It takes time for a team to gel, and I hope Mr. Kindt allows the cohesiveness to grow naturally. CAFU’s art is spectacular as always. Valiant is hitting on all cylinders and it’s a cool thing to see (and read).

UNITY #5 is in stores now, or available for ordering at www.valiantuniverse.com.
