A Review: A VOICE IN THE DARK #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of A VOICE IN THE DARK #1 from Image Comics. Larime Taylor writes and draws.

Zoey wants to start a new life. She has something she wants to run from, but she’s responsible enough to know how silly and dramatic that would be. She also has something strange going on inside her, though she seems to have it under control. Mostly. What she really wants to do is host a radio talk show, and it looks like her new college is going to let her do that.

Zoey is a very interesting character, certainly interesting enough to make this story work. Her internal narration tells us a lot, and she has done a very bad thing for arguably a very good reason. But it still haunts her, and she wants to use that to help others. There’s a great deal of depth in the character, and Taylor packs a ton of story into this issue. The art is clean and straightforward, and the black & white suits it well.

If you’re into character-driven stories, this is a really nicely constructed book. I can’t wait to see if we’re going to learn more about what’s in Zoey’s head.
