A Review: QUEST #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of QUEST #1 from Zenescope Entertainment. Pat Shand writes, Sergio Osuna and David T. Cabrera draw and Francesca Zambon colors.

A handful of bold warriors have sworn to restore balance to the Nexus. Princess Aisling, Blake the Brave and Bolder the Small have battled together to put together a new Council of the Realms, and now the earth avatar Druanna has come to them with a plan to tap into a power source. While there, they receive a new quest – they must find the vessel of Gloriana. This quest takes them to the former home of Bolder, whose welcome leaves something to be desired.

This is fantasy quest storytelling at it finest. It would be really easy to take established characters and just jump into a new arc, but Shand takes the time in this issue to set up the story in a way that we can all follow. He spends time on the story itself here, and I for one appreciate it. The art also shows that level of attention to detail, and it makes for a cohesive story right from the start.

This is an excellent beginning to what should shape up to be a very nice epic quest narrative. And it’s a great example of how to do a standard story trope very well.

QUEST #1 is available now at your FLCS and online at zenescope.com.
