A Review: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: STARBUCK #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: STARBUCK #1 from Dynamite Entertainment. The story is by Tony Lee, illustrated by Eman Casallos, colors by Davi Correia, and lettering by Joshua Cozine.

During the attack of the farming community of Umbra on the planet Caprica, Captain Adama’s viper is hit and crashes. A young boy appears out of nowhere to help the colonel warrior, but is injured and loses his memory in the fight. Adama names him Starbuck and becomes a father figure to him, rather than the adoptive parents who are farmers. Starbuck eventually becomes a colonel cadet and gains a mentor in Lieutenant Wyler, who teaches him the finer thing: smoking fumerellos, gambling, and women. The legend of Starbuck is just beginning…

Frankly, this issue was a very cool read. It’s an interesting choice to tie Starbuck so close to Apollo, Adama and the rest of the family at a very young age. It’s also wild to see a younger, brasher Adama grow to be the more controlled, wise Commander that we know from the original television show. I'm along for the ride.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: STARBUCK #1 is in stores now, or available to order at www.Dynamite.com.
