A Book Review: Marvel Year by Year a Visual Chronicle

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of Marvel Year by Year a Visual Chronicle from DK Books. The authors include:  Peter Sanderson, Tom Brevoort, Tom DeFalco, and Matthew K. Manning. The forward is written by Stan Lee, with an afterword by Joe Quesada.

Marvel Year by Year a Visual Chronicle tells the story of the publisher from its beginning as Timely Comics in 1939, through the Golden Age of Super Heroes in the 1940’s, to the westerns, sci-fi and romance books in the 1950’s as Atlas Comics, to the beginning of the Marvel Age in 1961, to present day.

This is a really beautiful book that is chock full of great information. Every major story is mentioned month by month, with additional stories of what was happening in the real world at that time. The hardcover (with the front image raised) comes in a slipcase - which at times can be too snug, but that’s a minor issue. Any fan of Marvel (or comics in general) would appreciate having this item in their library.

Marvel Year by Year a Visual Chronicle is in bookstores now and available for ordering at www.DK.com.
