A Review: SUCKERS #0

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of SUCKERS #0 from Zenescope Entertainment. Pat Shand writes and Ian McGinty draws.

Chad and John have a pretty sweet deal going. They’ve got a good hangout, a great friendship, and all kinds of time on their hands. But they run low on blood, and while they’re out getting more they run into Moonshade, who John has a beef with. This is where the evening starts to go wrong, unfortunately, and things will get worse before they get better.

Um, did I mention that this book is hilarious? The first fight scene with Moonshade is a constant stream of tongue-in-cheek references to other comic characters, and it doesn’t end there (Moonshade himself is pretty obvious too). And Chad and John couldn’t be any more different, making their buddy-ship that much more crazy. There’s a lot going on here, and it’s several different varieties of funny mixed together.

It’s great fun to see Shand cut loose here, and McGinty’s black & white art is really expressive. It all works together well to build a really funny vampire book. I’m looking forward to the upcoming series.

SUCKERS #0 is available now at your LCS or online at zenescope.com.
