A Review: MASS EFFECT: FOUNDATION #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of MASS EFFECT: FOUNDATION #1 from Dark Horse Comics. Mac Walters writes and Omar Francia draws.

Life in an asteroid mine is not always nice, so when the strange lady stopped the young miner from being beaten, it was a welcome relief. But it didn’t last long, as the strange lady was there to kill someone named Roth. The young miner helped the strange lady a couple of times, and wanted in return to get off the asteroid. When the lady refused, the young miner took drastic action.

As an intro story, this issue gives us a pretty tough picture of the universe. Our young miner (with a twist) grows up to join Cerberus, and has a rough road to get there. But obviously she wants to do something with her life, and has proven that she can do what’s necessary. It’s a bleak near-future with some space travel, but there’s a lot of room for stories out there.

This book works really well as the beginning of a 13-issue run. I like how much more than a first-person shooter this could turn out to be. Pick it up and enjoy the ride.

MASS EFFECT: FOUNDATION #1 is available now at your LCS or online at darkhorse.com.
