A Review: DEJAH THORIS AND THE WHITE APES OF MARS #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of DEJAH THORIS AND THE WHITE APES OF MARS #1 from Dynamite Entertainment. The story is written by Mark Rahner with art by Lui Antonio, and covers by Brandon Peterson and Alé Garza.

After going over the history of the planet with her son Carthoris, Princess Dejah Thoris decides to do an archeological expedition in order to learn more about “The Battle of the Face of Barsoom.” On the way, the princess’ ship encounters difficulties and is forced to land. While the repairsare going on, the expedition group looks for shelter and finds a dead city. Or so they thought, as a group of white apes are there and attacks them.

Lui Antonio’s artwork is beautiful as always. He also did the artwork on several issues of WARLORD OF MARS. While Mark Rahner’s story is solid, it’s nothing that we haven’t read before. However, my curiosity is piqued, so I’ll stick with the mini-series to see how it ends.
